In 1306 the English defeated the Scots army led by Robert the Bruce at the Battle of Methven, part of the Wars of Independence.

Methven is a small village, a few kilometres out of Perth on the way to Crieff. It makes for a good bike ride, and an interesting walk from the centre of the village to the battle site.
